Associate STEM Content Analyst – GENESEQ Indexing

Role Overview

The Associate STEM Content Analyst will support the GENESEQ™ Indexing product, a proprietary biological sequence database used to identify and search patented biological sequences. The role involves scientific curation of biotechnology and molecular biology data extracted from patent documents, ensuring high-quality indexing for intellectual property applications.


About the Team

  • Part of Clarivate’s Intellectual Property division

  • ~40–42 member team with diverse STEM backgrounds

  • Expertise areas include:

    • Biotechnology

    • Bioinformatics

    • Genetics

    • Molecular Biology

    • Microbiology

    • Biochemistry

  • Reports to a Team Manager

  • Focused on curating biological sequence data for the GENESEQ™ database


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Curation & Indexing

  • Apply biotechnology, genetics, and molecular biology knowledge to extract biological sequence information from patent documents

  • Index biological sequences from:

    • Formal sequence listings

    • Patent PDFs and TIFF images

  • Identify and extract sequences not explicitly listed but described or claimed in patents

  • Create records for:

    • Mutated sequences

    • Partial (SEQ ID fragment) sequences

    • Claimed or inferred biological sequences

Data Accuracy & Quality

  • Ensure adherence to editorial guidelines and indexing conventions

  • Maintain accuracy and consistency in sequence curation

  • Meet weekly production volume and quality targets

  • Support continuous improvement in data quality processes

Research & Database Use

  • Use publicly available scientific databases such as:

    • NCBI Taxonomy

    • PubMed

  • Perform secondary research to validate biological sequence information

  • Work with MS Office and document formats (PDF, TIFF, etc.)

Compliance & Work Standards

  • Follow safety and workplace compliance guidelines

  • Ensure consistent documentation and adherence to defined workflows

  • Contribute to team productivity and operational efficiency


Eligibility Criteria

Education (Mandatory)

  • Master’s degree in:

    • Biotechnology

    • Bioinformatics

    • Microbiology

    • Genetics

    • Molecular Biology

    • Biochemistry


Experience Requirements

Entry Level

  • Freshers eligible

Preferred Experience

  • 0–1 year experience in:

    • Patent indexing

    • Patent-related scientific documentation

Highly Preferred Experience

  • 1–2 years in:

    • Patent indexing

    • Gene sequencing

    • Disease indexing

    • Abstract writing


Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of biotechnology and molecular biology concepts

  • Basic knowledge of patent structures and indexing processes

  • Familiarity with:

    • MS Office

    • PDF/TIFF document handling

  • Experience with scientific databases (preferred):

    • NCBI

    • PubMed

  • Secondary research and analytical skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy


Work Schedule

  • Full-time, permanent role

  • Monday to Friday

  • 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM IST (including 1-hour break)
