Job Overview

ICON is seeking an experienced Clinical Data Science Lead – External Data to join its growing team in India. This leadership role is responsible for driving data science initiatives across clinical trials, with a strong focus on external data integration, advanced analytics, and strategic decision-making. The role combines technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and people leadership to deliver high-impact clinical insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of data science strategies for clinical trial data, including external and real-world data sources

  • Collaborate with clinical, biostatistics, data management, and regulatory teams to define analytical requirements and data standards

  • Oversee the development and validation of statistical models, algorithms, and analytical tools to enhance data interpretation

  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards

  • Mentor and guide data scientists and analysts, promoting best practices in analytics, visualization, and documentation

  • Translate complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders through reports and presentations

  • Support innovation in clinical data analytics to improve trial efficiency and decision-making

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Statistics, Data Science, Life Sciences, Biostatistics, or a related discipline

  • 8–12 years of relevant experience in clinical data analytics, data science, or statistical analysis within a clinical research or pharmaceutical environment

  • Proven leadership experience managing data science or analytics teams

  • Strong hands-on expertise with statistical and analytical tools (e.g., R, Python, SAS, or similar platforms)

  • Experience working with external data sources, real-world data (RWD), or integrated clinical datasets

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities in a global, cross-functional setting
