Role Overview:
The Computational Infrastructure Scientist will design, develop, and extend data systems that support large-scale biological and genetic research, enabling precision medicine and advanced drug discovery. This role bridges biology, bioinformatics, and software engineering, providing scalable, reproducible, and metadata-rich infrastructure for diverse biological datasets.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Data Infrastructure & Architecture:

  • Develop and extend data models and ontologies to harmonize heterogeneous biological, genetic, and clinical data.

  • Design scalable data ingestion, transformation, and standardization pipelines for genomic and functional datasets.

  • Build frameworks for semantic interoperability, reproducible workflows, and metadata-rich data exchange.

2. Scientific Workflows & Analysis:

  • Strategize and implement scientific data processing workflows to generate actionable insights.

  • Develop cloud-based workflows, APIs, and ETL systems to enable efficient access and analysis across datasets.

  • Support computational biology, genomics, and functional analysis for drug discovery projects.

3. Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Partner with domain scientists, bioinformaticians, and computational engineers to translate biological questions into computational frameworks.

  • Document and communicate design decisions to promote reuse and institutional knowledge.

  • Contribute to open data standards and knowledge representation initiatives in life sciences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with R.

  • Proficiency in Linux environments, Git, and PostgreSQL.

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS S3, EC2) and workflow managers such as NextFlow.

  • Knowledge of biological databases, ontologies, metadata systems, and containerized environments (Docker).

  • Ability to work independently on open-ended computational problems with strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Experience developing data-driven analytical tools, web APIs, or decision-support applications is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $151,500 – $244,200 depending on experience and education.
