Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Director – Neuroscience to lead the Psychiatry, Pain, and Neuronal Health Team within Lilly’s Neuroscience Discovery Group. This role is ideal for a visionary laboratory leader with deep expertise in neuroscience, neurodevelopment, and neuronal plasticity. The successful candidate will guide cross-functional teams, develop preclinical biomarkers, and drive translational early-phase research across psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Team Management:

  • Supervise a team of dedicated laboratory neuroscientists.

  • Lead cross-functional teams during preclinical drug development phases.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop laboratory staff and scientific talent.

2. Preclinical & Translational Research:

  • Identify, develop, and implement innovative approaches to enhance understanding of psychiatric and neurological disease biology.

  • Develop and translate preclinical in vivo biomarker assays (e.g., EEG) for early clinical development.

  • Provide robust, actionable data to support decision-making in novel neuroscience drug discovery.

3. Scientific Communication & Collaboration:

  • Present scientific findings to leadership, decision-makers, and cross-functional teams in a clear and compelling manner.

  • Collaborate across Lilly research sites and geographies to integrate translational and preclinical insights.

  • Contribute to regulatory documents and support investigational submissions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, or related discipline with 10+ years of industry or academic experience beyond postdoctoral training.
    OR

  • Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, or related field with 20+ years of industry or academic experience, including laboratory leadership and discovery project management through preclinical development.

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of pharmacology and measures of target engagement (ex vivo or in vivo) to inform human dose projections.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and translate preclinical biomarkers into clinical development strategies.

  • Experience preparing scientific documents for regulatory filings.

  • Demonstrated track record of neuroscience research with peer-reviewed publications.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaborative skills.

Additional Information:

  • Travel: 20–30%

  • On-site at Lilly Corporate Center, Indianapolis, IN and/or Lilly Seaport Innovation Center, Boston, MA

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $144,000 – $250,800 depending on experience and education.

  • Eligible for company bonus based on performance.
