Field Clinical Specialist – Structural Heart

Role Overview:
Abbott’s Structural Heart division is seeking an experienced Field Clinical Specialist to provide expert clinical support, training, and oversight across interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery programs. This role requires a strong clinical background, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple clinical development programs across functional areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Program Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage clinical programs and cost centers, ensuring timelines, budgets, and regulatory compliance are met.

  • Participate in clinical trial execution, including patient selection, surgical planning, procedural support, and clinical data review.

  • Monitor program progress, identify potential issues, and develop contingency strategies to ensure success.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate with directors, project managers, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive clinical initiatives.

  • Provide technical expertise to site care teams and act as the primary clinical resource for procedural support and troubleshooting.

  • Present clinical, product, and procedural information in meetings, trainings, and technical discussions.

Clinical Training & Support:

  • Train surgeons, interventional cardiologists, catheter lab staff, and ancillary personnel on the use of Structural Heart products.

  • Ensure adherence to protocol, regulatory standards, and ethical guidelines during clinical studies.

  • Apply advanced knowledge of Echo and CT imaging to interpret patient studies and support trial enrollment.

Regulatory & Operational Oversight:

  • Review vendor proposals and contracts, including CRO agreements, to ensure successful program execution.

  • Support the development and adherence of departmental policies, codes of ethics, and operating procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with sterile and aseptic techniques during procedures and the safe use of medical devices.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 80% travel, including some international assignments.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA or equivalent in life sciences, health sciences, or related field.

  • Minimum 6–8 years of clinical experience in interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, or structural heart programs.

  • Strong understanding of heart failure, cardiac hemodynamics, and hemodynamic monitoring devices.

  • Experience with CT CAD software, Echo analysis, and interventional procedures.

  • Ability to wear a lead apron for extended procedural durations.

  • Clean DMV record and willingness to travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced medical or life sciences degree (RN, PA, Perfusion, etc.).

  • Previous experience in the medical device or structural heart industry.

  • Familiarity with indirect imaging modalities, echocardiography, and clinical procedural standards.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base pay: $99,300 – $198,700 (location-dependent).
