Role Overview

AstraZeneca is seeking an experienced Associate Medical Director, Senior Patient Safety Physician to lead and support patient safety initiatives for marketed products. The role is pivotal in evaluating adverse events, monitoring product safety profiles, and implementing proactive risk management strategies. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, regulatory authorities, and licensing partners to ensure compliance with global pharmacovigilance standards and regulatory requirements.

The incumbent may also serve as SSaMT leader for designated products, overseeing pharmacovigilance systems and contributing to process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct signal detection, evaluation, and risk management activities for complex, established products.

  • Provide medical input into data analysis and collaborate with external partners in routine signal management.

  • Deliver accurate safety evaluation documents and communicate findings to key stakeholders.

  • Contribute to regulatory submissions, labeling updates, and risk minimization strategies.

  • Author safety content for Health Hazard Evaluation reports and review study protocols.

  • Review and provide medical input on periodic safety reports submitted to regulatory agencies.

  • Participate in external meetings with regulators and licensing partners.

  • Maintain readiness for internal audits and regulatory inspections; contribute to continuous process improvement.

  • Collaborate effectively in cross-functional and cross-cultural project teams.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent).

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience post-registration.

  • Strong medical competence balanced with industry knowledge to achieve business objectives.

  • At least 6 years of experience in Patient Safety / Pharmacovigilance with proven delivery.

  • Total professional experience of 11–14 years or more.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working across multiple therapeutic areas and functions.

  • Supervision or leadership experience in Patient Safety teams.

  • Ability to interpret and apply epidemiological data in safety assessments.

  • Strong communication, decision-making, and collaborative skills for cross-functional projects.
