Job Overview
Sun Pharma is seeking an experienced Manager – Biotechnology to establish and lead downstream processing activities within the Biological Drug Substance Unit. This leadership role is responsible for developing, scaling, and delivering robust purification processes for recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies, supporting clinical and GMP manufacturing programs.
The role demands strong expertise in downstream process development, scale-up, and GMP operations, along with the ability to mentor teams and ensure timely, compliant delivery of biologics programs.
Key Responsibilities
Establish and lead the downstream processing group within the Biological Drug Substance Unit, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery of purification processes and clinical batches
Design, plan, operate, and monitor downstream activities across development, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing stages
Lead downstream process development for large-molecule biologics, including recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies
Demonstrate hands-on expertise with chromatographic systems, including method development and optimization
Operate and interpret results from TFF (Tangential Flow Filtration) and filtration systems using standard analytical and process tools
Apply downstream process scale-up principles to transition processes from lab to pilot and commercial scale
Interpret analytical and process data to drive process understanding and continuous improvement
Author and review technical documentation including BMRs, SOPs, investigational protocols, development reports, and regulatory-relevant documents
Mentor and guide junior scientists and associates, providing technical leadership and scientific direction in downstream processing
Educational Qualifications
M.Tech / M.Sc. / PhD in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience Required
12 to 15 years of relevant industry experience in biotechnology or biologics development
Minimum 12 years of hands-on experience in downstream processing of recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies
Proven leadership experience in development, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing environments
