Job Summary
Abbott is seeking a Director of Clinical Research to lead global evidence generation strategies supporting its Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Interventions (TMTI) portfolio. This on-site role in Santa Clara, CA involves directing cross-functional clinical programs, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and leading interactions with key opinion leaders and internal teams. Key Responsibilities
Lead global clinical trial strategy and execution for TMTI portfolio
Oversee development and management of clinical evidence plans and budgets
Direct design and implementation of clinical studies for regulatory and reimbursement approvals
Serve as the primary clinical liaison to regulatory bodies (e.g., FDA, BSI)
Collaborate with internal teams (R&D, biostatistics, clinical ops) and external stakeholders
Guide clinical documentation including study protocols, ICFs, and reports
Develop scientific podium and publication strategy with cross-functional input
Evaluate regulatory and industry changes to adapt evidence generation approaches
Mentor clinical scientists, provide leadership in matrixed teams
Drive strategic, data-based decisions through robust trial oversight and analysis
Required Skills & Qualifications
Master’s or PhD in a medical or scientific discipline
10+ years of clinical research experience in cardiovascular or medical device field
Proven expertise in IDE clinical trials, risk management, and clinical evaluation
Experience managing cross-functional teams and clinical operations
Deep understanding of global regulatory requirements (FDA, EU)
Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning capabilities
Familiarity with study design, regulatory submissions, and scientific publication processes
